Attention Seniors: This information pertains to your senior year.

As we come to the final days for the Class of 2022, I would like to provide some basic information that may help you with answering questions from seniors.

 

  • All seniors received the attached letter in school and a copy was mailed home. I have additional copies outside of my office.
  • Field trip forms are still available for Grad Walk on Thursday, June 9. Field trip forms are available outside of the Student Activities office.
  • Friday, June 10, senior awards will take place in the auditorium during 1st block. This event is invitation only.
  • Friday, June 10 is Senior Day. All seniors must report to the cafeteria for 2nd block on Friday, June 10. This is a mandatory graduation practice. You will receive your graduation, tickets, yard sign, and lunch.
  • Monday, June 13 is the 2nd mandatory graduation practice for all seniors. This takes place on Monday at the Virginia Beach Convention Center from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Anyone still needing to pick up their cap and gown may do so at this time. Honor graduates may also purchase their honor stoles and tassels for $20 cash on Monday, June 13th at the Convention Center.
  • Wednesday, June 15 is graduation. All seniors should report to the Virginia Beach Convention Center by 2:45 pm.
  • Cap and gown pictures are all handled by Lifetouch www.lifetouch.com I do not have access to any picture information.
  • Yearbooks have not arrived. It will be announced when they arrive.

May UPDATE:

June 6 – 9 - Senior Exams will be given during this time. Please see your teachers about their exam schedule. All final grades will be submitted by 2:00 p.m. on June 9.

June 9 – Gradwalk is an opportunity for graduating seniors to parade through our 6 feeder elementary schools in their cap & gowns. This event is limited to 40 seniors and requires a permission slip. Students will depart GRHS at 8:00 a.m. and return at 1:45 p.m.

June 10 – Senior Awards Ceremony, GRHS Auditorium 7:30 am. Seniors receiving awards or scholarships should submit all pertinent information to [email protected] or [email protected] by May 23, 2022 to be included in the ceremony. Family members are invited to this celebration.

June 10 – Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal in the GRHS cafeteria at 9:00 a.m. All students planning to participate in the graduation ceremony must attend this rehearsal. Students with cleared financial accounts will receive 10 graduation tickets at dismissal. Students who purchased the GR Senior Package will receive their additional tickets. The bookkeeper will be available to settle any accounts.

June 10 – Senior Prom at Virginia Beach Convention Center 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale May 2 after school in rooms 123 and 125.

June 13 – Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal at Virginia Beach Convention Center 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. All seniors planning to participate in graduation must attend this rehearsal.

June 15 – Graduation at Virginia Beach Convention Center 4:00 p.m. All graduating seniors must be seated in the “lineup” room before 3:00 p.m. Students will have to pass through metal detectors, so allow enough time to get through the detectors to be in the lineup room by 3:00 p.m. Students are not allowed to bring anything into the lineup room in the Virginia Beach Convention Center. All phones, purses, keys, gifts, etc., should be given to parents or guests before entering in the student entrance line. Students are not allowed to return to the lineup room after the ceremony.

All graduates should adhere to a business casual dress code and wear a regulation cap and gown. Business casual includes dresses, pant suits, dress slacks, skirts, dress shirts, blouses, and dress shoes. Jeans, slides, and flip-flops will not be permitted. Students who are improperly dressed will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. Please remember that this is a solemn, formal ceremony and everyone is expected to dress and behave appropriately. Students may only wear graduation stoles and cords that are approved by the school division.

The Virginia Beach Convention Center will open at 3:00 pm for guests to pass through metal detectors and be seated for graduation which begins promptly at 4:00 pm. Guests must remain seated throughout the graduation and will not be allowed on the floor to take pictures. Packages, gifts, balloons, coolers, flowers, etc., are not permitted inside the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Please take pictures and exchange gifts before or after the ceremony.

June 15 – Gradfest at Apex Entertainment, 4621 Columbus St. #100, Virginia Beach from 10:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. The cost is $40 and tickets are on sale online. This all-night celebration is an event that you will not want to miss. Only graduating seniors of GR may attend. All seniors attending must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian and must have a picture ID to enter. Doors open at 9:45 p.m. and close at 11:30 p.m. You do not need any money for the celebration. Everything is included in the price of the ticket. Graduates will check all personal belongings except camera and phone in bag check upon entering. Adult volunteers will supervise all areas all night. This event is sponsored by GRHS
PTSA. Food and beverages will be provided.

Senior year and graduation are more than just a ceremony. It’s an experience for both our seniors and their families. Graduation is the celebration of many years of dedication and hard work by all involved. As we continue to face some of the most unique and unforeseen circumstances in recent history, please know our team remains committed to providing a unique and memorable experience for the Class of 2022.
